An influential figure in investigation of geographic structure of Drosophila, and, with Harrison Stalker, responsible for the intensive study of the Hawaiian Drosophila adaptive radiation. Professor at Washington University in Saint Louis, and later at the University of Hawaii. He died in December, 2004, at the age of 90.
